According to one estimate*, there are 800–2,000 cats and kittens in shelters, rescues, and foster homes in Eastern Connecticut waiting for adoption at any given time. Annually, that’s an estimated 4,000–8,000 cats and kittens rescued. This does not include the staggering number of community cats—estimated at 10,000–30,000—that may live in feral colonies across the eastern part of the state.

In addition to the efforts of countless volunteer groups, creating awareness in the community is important, too. Our Companions Animal Rescue and Sanctuary—Totti and Wallace’s Fairy Godmother—is presenting a series of talks called “Paws for Thought – A Compassionate Conversation About Animal Welfare.”
